After messing around with the stats and talking with Herschel and Mike, I came to the idea of using an Oblivion style setup where all abilities simply have a stat requirement to acquire them. Even though this would get rid of your ''staples'' in MMO's, it would allow for much more versatility, letting players create exactly what they want their character to be. And, it's already been stated by Herschel that ''yeah but then its all stats based the tank could be better dps then tank then you would have alot of shitty tanks because they want to do more damage instead of survive''
my reply? ''well then they would die lol not the mechanics fault''
let me know what you think

I never liked the idea of one class having to be limited in what they can do. Having stat based, or even semi stat based abilities would be great, imo. Classes could start out trained and better suited for a certain abilities, it doesn't mean they would be limited to them.
In real world situations, the fact that you're a Shaolin monk, doesn't mean you can't leave the temple and become a soldier, a thief, or a fucking fry cook. It just means you started out knowing how to be a monk.
Of course, this is merely the ramblings of a gamer who loves a real world (albeit a fantasy world where vamps, fairies, goblins, dwarves, etc are real) game.

That was my thought exactly. I've always hated the confinements of most games where if you are THIS class you can only learn THIS ability...I could see adding something like Backgrounds or something similar to allow you to boost certain stats at creation to show where you came from and what your previous knowledge adds to your character overall.

So it's gonna be something like Fallout 3 where you get to choose a perk/trait/ability every time you level up? If that's how it's going to be really awesome.
